Podcast | Mr. Speaker’s Christmas Single

We had the pleasure of interviewing Tom Donovan of Mr. Speaker about their newly released Christmas album and original Christmas single, Its Christmas Time.  All in aid of raising awareness for Multiple Sclerosis on behalf of the MS Trust – a charity very close to the band’s heart.

The interview was originally aired on our radio show on Monday 3 December 2012 and is now available for download as part of our regular podcast series.

Roll out the blood red carpet… Rogue Music is proud to present our third annual Halloween Party, and this one looks set to be the most ghoulish yet.

Following last year’s Dia De Los Muertos extravaganza, we made a pact with the devil. In return for putting on some of the best live acts in the business we’ve accidentally awakened the cult of the celeb.

For one night only you will walk with the stars – Elvis LIVES!, his guts spilling out of his belly like so much raw mincemeat.

There’s Amy Winehouse – the only thing that’s gonna send her back to rehab this time is a shotgun and a silver bullet.

Steve Irwin is back, stalking guests from a watery grave – loving the new blowhole Stevo!

Expect games, thrills and spills, oh – and did we mention some awesome music while we’re at it? If you haven’t seen Coda yet, you really should – even if dubstep’s not your thing we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. And if it really REALLY isn’t your thing, we have the magnificent talents of The Zipheads, Dying Inside and Vanilla Nightmare – all of which are unmissable.

Doors: 8pm – 1am (don’t be late – we won’t wait)

Tickets: £6 advance, £7.50 on the door

ROGUE PROMOTIONS are proud to welcome back the prodigious talents of singer, songwriter, rapper, entertainer and all-round nice bloke Gideon Conn to the Hitchin stage.

Having worked with the likes of Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and appearing at previous Rogue nights and Rhythms Of The World with his live band, Gideon returns to Hitchin for an intimate solo set. Those who have seen him before will know about the magic of the Gideon experience which hinges heavily on audience participation and some extremely funny and touching songs.

Joining him will be the legendary Hitchin acolyte Stuart O’Connor, erstwhile singer with My Pet Junkie, who is also on tour throughout the UK who is here to play a special homecoming gig. More than a simple strummer, Stu incorporates live loops and effects to transform his one man band into a full-on musical experience.

Supporting them will be Joe Ferris – self-styled anarchist, socialist, Buddhist and gobshite. Expect a ribald and irreverent set where politics meet parental-advisory. Songs include Chlamydia Blues and Pissing Out My Bumhole. Not for the faint hearted!

FRUITION | CC SMUGGLERS | KILLING FIELDS OF ONTARIO | EVERYONE ALWAYS DOES – Rhythms Of The World Benefit this Weekend!

This is going to be a right HOOT!

This weekend heralds a barnstorming Saturday night at Club 85, Hitchin – a fundraiser for this year’s Rhythms Of The World festival.

England aren’t playing, so it’ll be well worth getting down early for the sublime funk-pop of Everyone Always Does. Rogue had a chance to catch the five members supporting Sons Of Guns and There Were Bears at the Letchworth Arena Tavern the other week, and we have to say they are mindblowing. Formed from the ashes of local faves Pilot the Fusion and Sodascream, each member is a technical powerhouse, mixing elements of funk, dub, soul and rock, with riffs stronger and catchier than the full-blown flu. Needless to say, we are big fans.

They’ll be followed by bleached-out blues rockers, Killing Fields Of Ontario, whose name and heady Americana style betrays the fact they’re from the Herts/Beds axis, but never mind. Their song ‘Cloud’ was recently played on Tom Robinson’s BBC Introducing mixtape.

Next up are hoedown heroes and Rogue faves CC Smugglers. Often described as a blues/roots band, the Smugglers’ unique style of skiffly upright bass shenanigans is transcends this narrow genre description – we just call it great, fun, irresistible music!

Rogue has to admit we haven’t yet caught Pirton’s oldest sons, Fruition, in their new guise, but fond memories of their days as staples of the local circuit are making us a little bit excited in our pants.

An unbeatable lineup and all for a good cause as proceeds go towards running this year’s Rhythms of the World festival. Ah yeah!

Hell’s Belles Roller Girls

Hertfordshire’s female Roller Derby team on recruitment drive

Hell’s Belles Roller Girls, Hertfordshire’s first flat track roller derby team, are on the lookout for new members, with a new training course starting on May 27th. If you’re over 18, have skating ability or an interest in learning, then they would like to hear from you.

For those not familiar with the sport – it’s a full-contact team sport played by two teams of five on traditional four-wheel roller skates, a sport originally made popular over in America that has also grown increasingly popular over here since 2006. The UK now has its own Interleague Championships, with 40+ teams from Oxford, Milton Keynes and Beds, amongst many others.

Hells Bells will be looking to recruit both new male and female members – any men over 18 interested in becoming a referee or non-skating official can also apply, but you must be female in order to train with and be part of the team. There is no upper age limit. Protective gear including helmets, pads and gum shields is always worn. Training takes place on Sundays and Wednesdays (please get in touch for more information on times etc.), at Birchwood Leisure Centre in Hatfield.

If this sounds like the sport for you, or if you’d like further information, please get in touch.
