Crap Crab single launch w/ Sons Of Guns, Disco Zhivago + Beneath the Waves – this Fri 7th December at Club 85

INSTRUMENTAL post-punkers Crap Crab have teamed up with Anonymous Promotions for a special event at Club 85 to mark the launch of their debut single “Crab Riff”.

The bill features Hitchin electro-rockers Sons Of Guns who’ve been making huge waves with their new song and video for “I Slept In The Car”. Also supporting – two brand new bands who take to the stage for the first time: Stevenage pop-punks Beneath The Waves, and Hitchin-based odd-pop trio Disco Zhivago (featuring Rogue’s own Charlie Frame).

Roll out the blood red carpet… Rogue Music is proud to present our third annual Halloween Party, and this one looks set to be the most ghoulish yet.

Following last year’s Dia De Los Muertos extravaganza, we made a pact with the devil. In return for putting on some of the best live acts in the business we’ve accidentally awakened the cult of the celeb.

For one night only you will walk with the stars – Elvis LIVES!, his guts spilling out of his belly like so much raw mincemeat.

There’s Amy Winehouse – the only thing that’s gonna send her back to rehab this time is a shotgun and a silver bullet.

Steve Irwin is back, stalking guests from a watery grave – loving the new blowhole Stevo!

Expect games, thrills and spills, oh – and did we mention some awesome music while we’re at it? If you haven’t seen Coda yet, you really should – even if dubstep’s not your thing we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. And if it really REALLY isn’t your thing, we have the magnificent talents of The Zipheads, Dying Inside and Vanilla Nightmare – all of which are unmissable.

Doors: 8pm – 1am (don’t be late – we won’t wait)

Tickets: £6 advance, £7.50 on the door

Frog Stupid’s Farewell Party

Hitchin favourites announce their final gig and release.

Local ska-punk group Frog Stupid will be playing their last ever gig at Club 85 in Hitchin on April 14th, at which they will also be releasing their final CD, ‘Lessons In Forgetting Punk Rock’. Since forming back in 2003, Frog Stupid have gathered a strong local following and been a constant crowd-puller, but after nine years together, they feel it’s now time to call it a day, though you’ll still be able to catch the band’s members in the various respective acts they’ve formed which have been keeping them busy in recent years – these include Scream!Shout!Say Nothing!, Spandex Ballet, Arms & The Man and Sons Of Guns. Support comes from Lost Without Cause and Three Bottles Down.

LIVE | Rogue presents ‘Start Wearing Purple’

PURPLE.

A colour associated with nobility and spirituality. Also a colour associated with rock’n'roll: Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Gogol Bordellos and Ritchie Blackmore have all paid tribute to this decadent hue – and if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for us.

So join us at Club 85, Hitchin on the  26th February for the best party for miles around – featuring:
DYING INSIDE

We’ve got a fantastic line-up on offer for this one. We’re not just saying it because it’s our own night but each one of these acts is a joy to behold live (we’ve done this with our very eyes) and we’re chuffed that we’ve finally got them together on one stage.

Roxy Rawson

Starting the night at around 8-ish will be the quirky, unique sound of ROXY RAWSON, an ex-Hitchinite who has played and sung the world around with her anti-folk acoustic style. This is no middle-of-the-road balladeering though, as Roxy with her backing band exhibit a truly experimental style reminiscent of artists such as Joanna Newsom or Regina Spector.

Gideon Conn at Rhythms Of The World festival. Many thanks to Jon at http://www.tdmphotography.co.uk for the photo.

We’re very proud to bring back GIDEON CONN and his band to Hitchin once more. One of the few true eccentrics working in the UK music scene today, expect to hear insomniac raps, paeans to fishmongers and acappellas about electric pylons. Providing one of the most exhilarating performances at ROTW last year as causing quite a stir at the Isle Of Wight Bestival, this is a unique and intense performer. A modern day Jonathan Richman with a funky hip-hop bent.

Headlining the night will be very special guests NEW TOWN CENTRES. Locals will be familiar with their upbeat post-punk style, but those who aren’t are in for a real treat. A powerhouse of talent, New Town Centres combine the lyrical witticisms of Pulp with the jerky funk of the Talking Heads and a quaint ’60s cool exhibited by their identical shop-dummy apparel. Not to be missed by anyone, ever.

______________________________________

Of course, ROGUE events aren’t just about the bands. Taking us from 11pm to 2am will be a whole host of DJ talent, spinning round, mashing up and slamming down everything from 80s synth pop to heavy metal jams, hip hop mixmastery to drum’n'bass mayhem. There’ll hopefully be something for everyone here, so why not buy your granny a ticket while you’re at it?

We are also pleased to announce the return of the GoAwayComeBack crew who will be helping out with their wicked visual duties and live drawing. And watch out for Barry Hobbs, the man from PhArt, who will be compiling another Rogue’s Gallery piece for the Facebook group.
