WELL, MAYBE not quite as exciting as it seems, as this is a concert filmed in 1982 at the now-defunct Regal Theatre (now a doctor’s surgery).
Still it’s testament to the fact that big bands could at one time play outside of the big cities. Hitchin in the eighties was a popular touring spot, and the Regal rivalled venues such as Cambridge Corn Exchange as a live venue. Everyone from the Specials, Spandau Ballet, Madness and Thin Lizzy would grace Hitchin’s stage.
On a bizarre tip, the mighty Fall also recorded half of their classic Hex Enduction Hour album within the Regal’s walls (the rest was recorded in the slightly more exotic climes of Iceland).
It’s part of our mission statement at Rogue to get North Herts back on the map as far as live music is concerned, but we cannot do it without the help and support of our audience.

So we’re putting it out to you – what bands and artists do you think you would like to see on stage in Hitchin?
